As we look back on World Mosquito Day, it is important to reflect on the key challenges surrounding mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit across Africa. Through research, genomic surveillance, modelling and data science, integrated vector control, community engagement, effective regulation, and multidisciplinary partnerships, AIRID contributes to strengthening responses to mosquito-borne diseases.
Mosquito-borne diseases continue to place a major burden on communities. Addressing this challenge requires more than a single solution.
At AIRID, research contributes to a better understanding of mosquito populations, pathogens and insecticide resistance. Through genomic surveillance, modelling and data science, and integrated vector control, science helps us anticipate threats, evaluate interventions and identify the right tools for the right places.
But technology alone will not be enough.
World Mosquito Day may have passed, but the need to understand mosquitoes, strengthen research and develop better responses to mosquito-borne diseases remains as important as ever.
The conversation continues.
Bold Science. African-Led. Impact-Driven.
